From the pier’s perspective; from the stone pile to the “red” dot lies the wreck graveyard. The wreck area consists of approximately twenty ships from the period 1550-1650, which were intentionally sunk as a barrier towards Karlskrona in the late 17th century. Time has taken its toll, causing the wrecks to collapse, making it challenging to distinguish one wreck from another. However, a closer examination and some knowledge about the wrecks provide a good understanding of how large many of them once were. Some of the frames from the ship “Vasa,” a line ship from the late 16th century that notably made a journey to China, can be clearly seen at a depth of about 5 meters in the northeastern part of the wreck site. Typically, one walks on the outer side of the large pier, which is quite slippery, and taking it easy here is a definite advantage.

It is a very pleasant diving site for those interested in ancient wooden wrecks. Bottom conditions consist of sand and stone extending from the pier until the depth contour begins, with a significant amount of sediment resting on the wrecks, which can impair visibility.
