There is an old lime loader built of wood on the southwest side of Ytterholmen. It is a ship that was probably used to ship lime from the port of St Olofsholm.
In 2005, an archaeological investigation was started at the site.
The wreck itself is said to be no more than a few pieces of wood lying on the bottom.
The ship was about 20 meters long, and about 15 meters of the wreck can now be seen.
To find the wreck, you take a boat and go down to the southwest side of the island. When you see that the shoreline consists of a small platform that goes straight down maybe half a meter to a meter down to the water’s edge, and that there is a small cabin up on the island.
Somewhere near where the platform ends to the north, there is an iron nail in the platform. There you swim straight out and then hit the wreck at a depth of 4-6 meters.
Not much is known about the wreck, and the archaeological investigation that has begun will continue for a couple of years to come. Therefore, be very careful when diving on the wreck so that nothing is destroyed, then perhaps in time we will be able to learn more about the wreck’s history!
