The depth is indicated as 1.3m and has a green marker for identification. Despite this, the record is 6 groundings in a two-week period in 2007. Everything from Volvo Ocean sailboats to regular 30-foot boats. All that I have seen run aground are sailboats.
Problem:
The green marker is placed too far from the actual 1.3m depth, which causes tacking sailboats on a southern course to “clear” the marker and sail directly onto the shallow. It is also not uncommon for sailing boats on a northern course to run aground, but an estimate is that about 65% are tacking south.
Proposed solution:
Move the green marker much closer, directly east of the 1.3m depth, or place an east marker. Unfortunately, there is a shallow area around 1.3m at about 4m depth, which also needs to be addressed, but it is rare for leisure boats to have this draft.
