The ledge drops from just above the surface down to a depth of 7-10 meters. In some places the ledge slopes slightly inwards. You can jump in anywhere, but a good place to start is the large rock and then swim south.
Flatfish and the occasional cod can be spotted.

Quite nice https://navlex.com/properties/quite-nice/ https://navlex.com/properties/quite-nice/#respond Tue, 30 Jun 2026 18:42:43 +0000 https://navlex.com/properties/quite-nice/ You can go into the water practically anywhere on the cape. To the left (towards the harbor) it gets muddy but with lots of details to look at, there is a stone anchor along the edge. Visibility can be quite poor due to currents. To the right it is a little shallower but still beautiful.

Things to keep in mind – in both limestone quarries diving is prohibited.

Själsö Harbour https://navlex.com/properties/sjalso-harbour/ https://navlex.com/properties/sjalso-harbour/#respond Tue, 30 Jun 2026 18:42:42 +0000 https://navlex.com/properties/sjalso-harbour/ On one side of Själsö Harbor is shelter from the weather, while on the other is the roaring Baltic Sea. The beach is shallow and accessible by foot between the smaller jetties. limestone and clay formations on a white sand floor. Rock outcroppings and bladderwrack woods. Seaweed of many kinds and eelgrass meadows. Look for shrimp and flounder. Rocks covered in red algae give life color. The area is vast once you leave the harbor, and it’s a shallow diving spot. Excellent wintertime visibility!

Ancient Harbour https://navlex.com/properties/ancient-harbour/ https://navlex.com/properties/ancient-harbour/#respond Tue, 30 Jun 2026 18:42:41 +0000 https://navlex.com/properties/ancient-harbour/ The 17th century saw the usage of the ancient harbor of St. Ofolsholm by sailing cargo ships that came to get lime from the quarries. A dike that was constructed at the time to allow lime to be dumped from a higher height has since been destroyed, but the collapse and its remnants are still visible outside the port. Throughout the decades, this area has had a number of piers and loading docks, however because of the sandy bottom’s mobility, constructions at sea are prone to movement and collapse.

Baltic mussels, cockles, eelgrass, bladderwrack, and flounder are found on a sandy bottom. The remnants of plundered wooden ships, which are now primarily reduced to a few planks, can be found next to the larger piers.

Dive – Östergarnsholm https://navlex.com/properties/dive-ostergarnsholm/ https://navlex.com/properties/dive-ostergarnsholm/#respond Tue, 30 Jun 2026 18:42:39 +0000 https://navlex.com/properties/dive-ostergarnsholm/ Östergarnsholm:

To get to Östergarnsholm, you need boat transport. The nearest port is Herrvik, where there is also a slipway. To get to Herrvik, take road 143 from Visby towards Roma, continue towards Östergarn and Herrvik.

Just southwest of the western lighthouse on Östergarnsholme there is a gravel slope that goes down to the water, to the south there is a cliff edge. You can go in there and swim southwards. It is also possible to go from the other direction or jump in where you can from the rocks.

There are lots of cool formations and cauldrons underwater at shallow depths. Even above the water it is a very cool place with overhangs and “caves”.

Fossils & Flatfish https://navlex.com/properties/fossils-flatfish/ https://navlex.com/properties/fossils-flatfish/#respond Tue, 30 Jun 2026 18:42:38 +0000 https://navlex.com/properties/fossils-flatfish/ From land: Swim straight out and continue to the right, around the cliff. Nice fossils in the outcrop and often plenty of flatfish.

Note how the waves break at the edge of the platform. It can sometimes be difficult to get up if there is too much surf.

Gotland’s highest rauk – Jungfrun – is located to the left of the Lickershamn fishing camp.

There is a small kiosk/cafe in Lickershamn during the summer, where you can also buy smoked fish during the summer.

How to get here: Road 149 north from Visby towards Kappelshamn. After just under 30 km, take the exit towards Lickershamn. Just before the harbour and the fishing huts, the gravel road continues to the right. Follow it (even though it almost ceases to be a road) along the beach until it ends at the foot of a cliff edge. Park there.

Follow the edge https://navlex.com/properties/follow-the-edge/ https://navlex.com/properties/follow-the-edge/#respond Tue, 30 Jun 2026 18:42:36 +0000 https://navlex.com/properties/follow-the-edge/ This is an ok diving spot, particularly when there are strong winds from the west or southwest, as it is sheltered here.

To the right of the bunker, the ledge approaches the shore, making it advisable to enter the water there and then swim out to a depth of 8-9 meters. It is most beautiful to follow the edge at that depth. Further out, the depth increases, but there is little to see aside from the sandy bottom. By car – From Visby, drive towards Slite. Approximately 2 km before reaching Slite, turn right towards Gothem. After crossing the bridge, a sign for “Gothemshammar” will appear on the left. Continue along the small roads by the beach until you reach a covered bunker. Park at the bunker.

Nature Dive – Djupvik https://navlex.com/properties/nature-dive-djupvik/ https://navlex.com/properties/nature-dive-djupvik/#respond Tue, 30 Jun 2026 18:42:35 +0000 https://navlex.com/properties/nature-dive-djupvik/ To reach the edge of the reef, it is approximately 30 meters, and from there, it descends almost directly to a depth of 4 meters. For experienced divers, this may not be an exciting dive, but it is shallow and straightforward for beginners. Swimming along the reef edge is quite impressive, often teeming with fish.

In the presence of southern or southwest winds, there can be considerable waves that may prove challenging. Additionally, the onshore wind can stir up the bottom, resulting in poor visibility.

Directions:

Drive from Visby towards Klintehamn. Pass through Klintehamn and continue on the road towards Fröjel. Turn right at the sign for “Djupvik” and follow the road to Djupvik, driving past this harbor for about 1 kilometer. Just before a summer cottage with a very high and steep roof, turn off the road and park beneath a few pines that are located there.

Nature Dive – Out Cliffs https://navlex.com/properties/nature-dive-out-cliffs/ https://navlex.com/properties/nature-dive-out-cliffs/#respond Tue, 30 Jun 2026 18:42:34 +0000 https://navlex.com/properties/nature-dive-out-cliffs/ A remarkably beautiful location featuring exotic nature, including herbs and certain toads that are unique to the Out Cliffs. Regarding diving, it is a delightful area characterized by large, stunning rock formations and boulders. It serves as an ideal spot for capturing “underwater nature” photographs. There is an abundance of fish, shells, and clams. Seals can also be found in the vicinity.

Diving is enjoyable almost all around the Out Cliffs, with plenty of fascinating sights to observe. Additionally, there are a couple of wrecks in the area suitable for diving.

Visiting the Out Cliffs is a very pleasant experience, even for those who do not dive. It is something one can later “boast” about.

Considerations – This area is highly sensitive to weather conditions; poor weather can develop rapidly, potentially requiring you to remain at the Out Cliffs. Please take care of the nature and objects on the islands, as some are found only there!

Nice Nature Dive https://navlex.com/properties/nice-nature-dive/ https://navlex.com/properties/nice-nature-dive/#respond Tue, 30 Jun 2026 18:42:33 +0000 https://navlex.com/properties/nice-nature-dive/ Perpendicular to the shore, one generally heads southward, where the maximum depth is reached most quickly. In this direction, the rock formations are also the most prominent. Here and there, patches of sandy bottom alternate with rocky blocks; however, if one swims eastward almost immediately after descending to about 5 meters, the depth soon shallows. If this shallow area is passed while continuing east, the seabed opens up to a more distinct sandy bottom interspersed with boulders. It is advisable to use a compass, as the area is not particularly easy to navigate.

The species that are almost always found here include large quantities of six-rayed blennies and clusters of mysid shrimp. There is also a significant presence of bladder wrack, saw wrack, and tangled wrack. Flatfish such as common plaice, redfish, and turbot are frequently encountered. Other common species include shrimp, black blennies, small cod, and jellyfish. Occasionally, schools of roach, herring, or perch can be seen, along with solitary pike, needlefish, eel, sea trout, lesser pipefish, and common blenny. Visibility ranges from 2 to 10 meters, typically between 3 and 5 meters. The current is never strong.

Photography opportunities:
There are good chances for fish portraits or macro shots of small creatures among the seaweed. Wide-angle shots can be taken in the shallow areas or among the large boulders from the Ice Age that form the underwater landscape.

This site is suitable year-round but is particularly recommended in the summer when the steps are installed, preferably in early summer when several species are in breeding colors and present in large numbers. It is also good for night dives.
