The 17th century saw the usage of the ancient harbor of St. Ofolsholm by sailing cargo ships that came to get lime from the quarries. A dike that was constructed at the time to allow lime to be dumped from a higher height has since been destroyed, but the collapse and its remnants are still visible outside the port. Throughout the decades, this area has had a number of piers and loading docks, however because of the sandy bottom’s mobility, constructions at sea are prone to movement and collapse.

Baltic mussels, cockles, eelgrass, bladderwrack, and flounder are found on a sandy bottom. The remnants of plundered wooden ships, which are now primarily reduced to a few planks, can be found next to the larger piers.
